I agree Paneech. Turning our pet horses into meat is one of the biggest betrayals we do to these animals. Japan eats both 'pet' horses (former racers mostly), plus horses bred specifically for meat in Alberta. The Canadian horses are shipped live to Japan and slaughtered there, where they are eaten raw. (I have mixed feelings about the horse meat farms...repulsed, but at least there's no betrayal and they are treated a lot better in life than a lot of the 'pet' horses). Approx 100,000 American and Canadian 'pet' horses are slaughtered each year for human consumption overseas in Italy, France, Belgium and even in parts of Canada. It's a brutal, ugly business... and I say this as a meat eater who has very little use for PETA.
